Notice: All models come with a hefty 1" inch thick, x 24" round, 8 pond wood round base, with a 4" inch round kiln dried natural cedar wood scratching post for indoor use only. Kiln drying removes all sap and oils from the wood making it safe for kitties. All our posts are real trees, farmed trees. Trees are imperfect by nature, each post is unique unto itself, no two are alike, they have cracks, knots, slight variations, and split while drying out. Kitties prefer their trees this way. The Shoo-Kitty prototype post is 25 years old, and still going strong, scratched daily by the 2nd generations of kitties.

Getting ready to order another one! After years of using a particle board in our garage, our cat lost his favorite place to scratch when we moved. He doesn't like cardboard or sisal - he had started to use the door frames! This is the answer for him.
For me, it took months for the cats to notice it as a viable scratching post, then when it's new they can't get their claws into it so it's not good for scratching. But once it gets worn and they can get their claws into it, they noticed it as the best surface to scratch in the entire house. No more couch etc. I still think although you should keep a softer scratching post for when the cats just want to dig their claws into something. This wood post is when they actually want to grind down and turnover new claws
My woods-rescue kitty gave up her freedom a year ago when I moved into an apartment. She grew up with squirrels and loves to climb. Now she has an opportunity to do so thanks to this sturdy cat post. While she rarely uses it for scratching (she might if it had natural bark still on it but that would be too messy for many people I suppose), she uses it daily for climbing (to get treats at the top, of course!) Glad I purchased it for her health and happiness.
I rehomed a 9 year old cat who was found as a kitten and taken iin an horse farm. Although well cared for, she was very shy and ultimately came to live with me.
She had no interest in my couch, but I have a table and chairs made of willow that looks like bark. That, she loved. Who could blame her? I’m sure she thought it was a tree. I searched for something that might work in its place and took a chance on this scratching post. At first I didn’t think she noticed but I heard noise at 2 AM the second night and there she was , on her hind legs scratching away. Success!
I also was so pleased with kind and helpful responses to my email questions from the company on which height to get, and a little help getting the bolt all the way in!
Our cat started using it right away! Has been a couple months already, I’m looking forward to getting my money’s worth!
